An article from Chalwe et al (2009) in Emerging Infectious Diseases on the “increase risk of severe malaria on HIV-1 infected patients. This article shows the severity of malaria in HIV-1 patients and the effects of malaria on immunologic outcomes.
The co-infection between tuberculosis and HIV also is high and has been largely demonstrated so far. I think one lesson we can learn from this article is the need of very good health services offering integrated health care to attain the objectives of vertical programs, due to those co-morbidities. The question is how to attain this optimal interface?
